David Mize April 3, 2003) Dear General Mize: This morning I listened to you introduce President Bush at CLNC. I promptly contacted Greg Cunningham and confirmed that you and he were classmates at Quantico HS in the early 60s. I had been invited to the big reunion but unfortunately, was unable to attend. Nevertheless, the mention of my name brought a number of responses from young folks of that era, who remembered some of the "State of the Teenage Union" talks I gave when I was the Provost Marshal then. This surprised me no end and brought back a lot of memories. Since I'm a little long in the tooth now, memories are significant and valuable. I have a faint recollection of knowing your father, but faint is better than nothing; as a Marine Major once told me-a letter of reprimand is better than no mail at all. You may recall that I had several kids in the HS at that time and they used to cringe when I got up to talk-a typical teenage reaction. Kevin was a football teammate of Greg's but God saw fit to take him out of the game at the age of 22, a victim of cancer. John, Brian and Dennis all took a crack at basketball for Bill Marshall who was my golfing buddy for years. You're probably asking why I'm writing. Believe it or not, it's simply to express the pleasure I derived from those days, and the pride I have in the accomplishments of you and your classmates. At the top of the list is your success story, and as Greg mentioned, it makes one proud to have served in the Corps. This note may awaken some memories for you, and if it does, I hope they're good ones. I know you're a busy man, so please don't feel any obligation to reply to this letter. Notes:	7/6/2006: Hi Greg. Thought you'd like to update info. on Robert Atkinson of Hilton Head, SC (QHS '57 grad.). He passed away in 2003, I believe. Although we had not seen each other in a few years, I would routinely call him on his birthday, Feb. 16th. When I called a couple of years ago, his wife told me of his passing a few months earlier. Unfortunately, we will not be able to attend the reunion this year. Once again, the reunion from my graduating high school in Michigan is the same weekend. Since it is the 50th, I feel a strong tug in that direction than Quantico. It would be great to see some of those kids I went to school with at the old QPHS from 1951-1953. Notes:	3/16/06: Miscellaneous info.: Karen retired the summer of '03 (special education administrator) and we moved here (N. Padre Island); just over a causeway and bridge from Corpus Cristi) in Jan. '04. We live in a condo on a canal. Last yr. we purchased our first boat (20 ft. pontoon boat) and really enjoy it. We feel live in paradise. We have waving palm trees and it has been in 70s and 80s and I have been wearing shorts, T-shirts, and flip flops for over a month. I enjoy plaing golf (a course at the end of the block) and we both really like fishing and entertaining. We now have 15 grandchildren. We are quite active in our church. Retired life is great!

I thought that was cute! 2/12/2001: Miscellaneous info.: Left Quantico in '63 for 29 Palms and then graduated in '66 from Carlsbad High, CA, with Claudia Freitas. Graduated from Stephens College, Columbia, Mo. in May '68 then flew as flight attendant for Continental Airlines 10/68-6/85.Lived in Dallas and met my husband, Scott who was a mechanic for Braniff. We have been married 23 years and have a 15 year old son, Sam,plus half the stray animals in East Texas. I am the director of a small public library in Hawkins, TX, since 10/88 and Scott runs his own Wood-Mizer sawmill since 12/84. Still keep up with Perry Shimanoff by e-mail and a birthday card to Sue McArtor Crisp when I remember. Quantico will always hold special memories for me, and as I look out through the woods and down to the pond in our back yard (65 acres) I almost feel as if I am back in O'l Va. Notes:	11/12/03: Moved to Orange County last October for larger, less expensive home. Nice area, but hot in the summer. The air is clean though. Wish there were more trees!!! I just looked at the "In Memoriam" and saw Bob Bowlin. Sad to see old friends go. Speaking of going...I almost checked out last June. I was in an auto accident (4AM going to work), collided with a car in an unlit intersection, them took down a signal light post. Sudden stoppage is a real bear. Walked away with ribs and a sprained ankle. Two months later...brain surgery due to bleeding brain. One month later blood clot due to inactivity. ICU for 11 days then sat in the recliner at home for 15 more. Good Lord saw me through it though. I missed the last reunion due to the events of the accident. Hope to come to the next one. Notes:	3/2/2001: Miscellaneous info.: Married to my sweetie since 1983 - four sons, all off and away on their own . . . sometimes! Nearly thirty years in the Air Force seems to have passed quickly (even the two tours in Southeast Asia), but the best of that time was the 14 years I flew the C-5, which was until I retired. Then, back to school to get another degree, followed by a few bridge jobs (one of which was teaching computer hardware and software). I'm now back in what I consider "my element" - corporate aviation pilot raining. It's a great job for someone who wants to be associated with aviation, but doesn't want the irregular hours and weird schedules associated with day-to-day flying. Interests and hobbies - pretty much the same as 'way back when: Photography (in several formats); music (mostly classical now, sure sign of my age!), the equipment used to listen to music (my collection of vacuum tube amps I have rebuilt will light up your life and heat up your home!); astronomy (now limited to an occasional dabble); reading; and, spins on my retro-bike. I'm always glad to hear from any former QHS'er from my era.

Prior to his coming to Post High he he came out of a small College in Pa. He was about 28 years of age at the time. He could have been younger. You are well organized and it is greatly appreciated. For your information I attended the old High School behind Freeney Field in the down town area in the 10th grade. My Junior & Senior year the High School was located at the top of the hill by the water tower where most of the high ranking officers lived. I have wondered from time to time whether High School year books from 1948 to 1954 have found their way to the present High School. Just a side note. Did you know that in 1948 & 49 that Quantico Post High School were Virginia State Basketball Champions. Most of those players at that time lived in the down town basketball base gym. Speck Savage who played in 1949 went on to U. Va. and held many shooting and scoring records down there until the three point shot came in. Notes:	8/26/04: While attending QHS I was in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade. I ran on the cross country team and remember playing ping-pong with Mr. Alvey, the Math teacher at the time, while waiting for my bus to take me home. I know I have some interesting stories to tell with just about all of the teachers that I had. I can remember my art teacher, Science teacher, and French teacher just like it were yesterday. Sad to read the school will close in 2005.
